BUILDING UPDATE

After a thorough and extensive investigation of Opal Tower by all stakeholder engineers, the structural remediation design works have been finalised by WSP and issued to Cardno for agreement.

The remediation plans address the localised detail at the bottom of the sky garden voids on each elevation, in particular the upturn beam which is used to transfer loads from the precast walls above through to columns below.

The remedial works will be carried out on Levels 4, 10 and 16 which involve strengthening the affected upturn beam via the introduction of a column or wall to one / both sides of the beam.

Please see below details which represents the typical extent of works for either a new wall either side of the existing wall OR a new column to a single side only.

ACCOMMODATION UPDATE

Based on the confirmed remedial plans and approval process, we can now establish the longer-term accommodation requirements in lieu of extending the accommodation in short term increments.

For those residents currently staying in a Hotel as arranged by Icon and their apartments are not yet available, Icon will contact you direct to arrange a serviced apartment or the like to ensure full facilities (laundry, kitchen etc.) are readily accessible.

Should you choose to seek your own accommodation, reimbursements will continue as per the below allowances based on the number of bedrooms in the Opal Tower apartment you are currently residing.

  • 1-bedroom apartment: $220 / night
  • 2-bedroom apartment: $300 / night
  • 3-bedroom apartment: $400 / night
  • 4-bedroom apartment: $500 / night

The progressive reoccupation of the apartments has been colour coded in the table below and attached as a PDF. The colours have the following meaning:

FOOD ALLOWANCES UPDATE

The food allowances were established at the time the incident occurred to ensure all residents immediate needs were addressed during the peak Christmas and New Year period and whilst being accommodated in Hotels without cooking facilities.

As residents have progressively relocated to their own accommodation or Icon has arranged a serviced apartments for longer term stays, the food allowance will no longer be available from the morning of Saturday, 16 February 2019.

We appreciate all residents cooperation to date and this decision was made with the careful consideration that all residents now have appropriate cooking facilities available in their temporary accommodation.

If you do not have cooking facilities available, please contact the Opal Tower Support Team and we assist in coordinating accommodation with cooking facilities available.
